Searching for Hair Loss Products?
How to Choose The Best Hair Loss Product

Whether you are a man or a woman, if you have been worried about baldness, you may be searching for the best hair loss product available. However, before spending your hard earned money on an expensive hair loss remedy, it's important to pinpoint the cause of your hair loss, and also to review your alternatives among hair loss products.

When seeking hair loss remedies, it's wise to consult with your doctor before using anything. If your hair loss is not genetic in origin, your doctor can often help you find a hair loss solution without the need for expensive surgical hair loss solutions or worthless hair loss remedies based more on folklore than on science.

Sometimes, you don't even need a hair loss product. Often, changing your diet, lifestyle or prescription medication can be all that's necessary to encourage hair regrowth. If you are experiencing unusual stress, that could be a cause. Improving nutrition is yet another easy hair loss solution for some causes of hair loss. Your alopecia could also be caused by hormone imbalance, infection, a more serious disease, or a prescription that you are taking. Whether you think you know why you're losing hair or not, it's important to see your doctor. He or she can help you discover what is going on, and recommend the best hair loss product for your needs.

Hair loss remedies in general come in three major forms. Your doctor may suggest a prescription hair loss remedy. Many people, however, prefer to use the less expensive over-the-counter hair loss remedies that are now widely available. In severe cases, some people may find that their only hair loss solution is surgical hair transplants and other forms of medical hair restoration.

Prescription Hair Loss Remedy.

The most common prescritiption hair loss product is Procera. Several other alternative hair loss products are available also. Generally, prescription hair loss solutions are dihydrotestosterone (DHT) inhibitors, since DHT has been identified as the likely culprit in many cases of hair loss. While highly effective, these hair loss products can also have unpleasant side effects, which you should discuss carefully with your doctor before starting.

Non-Prescription Hair Loss Remedies.

By far the most common of these hair loss products is Rogaine, which was once available only by prescription, but is now available over the counter. Several other competitors have since cropped up, also for topical application. All are DHT inhibitors, but at much milder doses than their prescription counterparts. There are now also several hair loss solutions that come in pill or tablet form, as well as various shampoos and hair loss powders that are said to add "bulk" to your hair. There are also several popular herbal hair loss products, some of which are also DHT inhibitors, but in an all-natural form.

Hair Transplant Surgery

This involves either scalp reduction, where unhealthy scalp areas are removed, and the healthy scalp is stretched to replace it, or follicle transplantation, in which small patches of healthy scalp ("plugs") are moved from one area to another. Hair transplant surgery is usually reserved for severe cases of baldness, in which other less drastic measures have previously failed, or when the patient begins treatment far too late for milder hair loss treatments to be effective.

Cutting Edge Hair Loss Solutions.

Since hair loss affects over 50% of men, and a smaller but still significant percentage of women, the hair loss product industry is huge - estimated sales are over $1 billion annually. There is also a lot of research going on, both in medical schools, and at drug companies. We will keep you posted as we hear about new hair loss products and treatments. Come back often for updates on such things as "hair cloning" and laser treatment, and of course, hair transplantation.
